On Sunday 1st November, Freedomleisure in partnership with the West Sussex County Council, will be opening its doors for a FREE fun day at Olympos Burgess Hill for disabled children and young people, their siblings, parents and (or) carers. The event, taking place at Olympos Burgess Hill, Triangle Way, will run from 10am – 4pm and will include activities such as arts and crafts, sports, trampolining, a bouncy castle, dancing and swimming. Attendance at the fun day must be registered in advance by contacting 01243 642284 or ania.barrow@westsussex.gov.uk
The Aiming High Fun Day is part of the West Sussex County Council (Governments) Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) Programme initiative to increase the provision of short breaks available to disabled children and young people across the county. Olympos Burgess Hill will also be re-launching their SMART (Sports Mobility and Recreation Time) sessions which are run to provide recreational play and activities for children with disabilities aged between 8 – 16 years old. Sessions incorporate use of a bouncy castle, arts and crafts, plus general play activities and games. The sessions that previously took place on Thursdays will move to Wednesdays starting from 4 November between 5:15pm – 6:45pm to allow more space and accommodate more children.
Craig Combe, Activities Manager at Olympos Burgess Hill, said: “We are really excited to be holding the fun day for disabled children and their families here at Olympos Burgess Hill. It’s a fun day out for all the family, plus the perfect opportunity for children with special needs to try out some of the activities open to them at our newly re-launched SMART sessions.”
Carolynn Ayres, Assistant Development Officer West Sussex Aiming High for Disabled Children on behalf of West Sussex County Council, said: “We are very excited to be holding another AHDC Fun Day, this time in partnership with Olympos Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill. This will be the third Aiming High Fun Day to be held in West Sussex, the previous two having extremely well received with positive feed back from all who took part. It is hoped that more disabled children and young people will have access to a wider range of activities and can join in more with their non-disabled peers.”
