Mesmear (www.Mesmear.co.uk) is a trio of luxurious catered and self-catering properties located in the North Cornwall’s uber-chic triangle, formed by the surfing paradise of Rock, Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver’s foodie heaven of Padstow/Watergate Bay and ‘Doc Martin’ country at Port Isaac. It is highly family-friendly but also perfect for relaxing and celebratory leisure breaks for groups of friends.
Sophisticated, contemporary style and indulgence awaits within lovingly-restored 18th century former farm buildings. The Mill, The Barn and The Calf’s House are owned and managed by former derivatives banker and his wife, Alan and Tessa Rose, who have spent three years and in excess of £1 million creating these delightful rural idylls on their 160 acre-farm.
The Mill, which can come complete with your own personal chef and housekeeper, sleeps up to 10 people. Prices range from £2,000 per week for The Mill, on a self-catering basis in autumn 2009 to £6,000 for a full-catered, high-season, seven-night holiday for 10 persons in 2010. Guests will receive a daily full English breakfast, afternoon tea and three-course dinner with wine.
The smaller, two-bedroom properties (The Barn and The Calf’s House) sleep up to four and are priced from £700 per week on a self-catering basis. Chef, Colin Hutchens is, however, at your disposal to prepare afternoon tea and tasty evening dishes from £10 for two, to order, featuring the freshest locally-sourced ingredients.
Buckets and spades, personalised toy boxes and a Games Room complete with table tennis, table football and air hockey table tennis, await younger visitors. A heated swimming pool (summer only), outdoor showers and a drying room for wet suits have thoughtfully been provided for surf dudes; cosy wood-burning stoves, indulgent bathrooms, Egyptian cotton bed linen, furnishings and original artworks by The Designer’s Guild and local artisans ensure the perfect getaway for all seasons.
Activities on your doorstep include: surfing, coasteering, kayaking, fishing, golf, wildlife spotting (even puffins!), cycling the Camel Trail, steam train adventures, wine tasting and wonderful coastal walks to ‘The Rumps’ and beyond.
Why not enjoy a culinary Masterclass with Mesmear’s resident chef or fish for mackerel out of Padstow, which can be cooked for your dinner? Youngsters love collecting free-range breakfast eggs from Molly the hen and her friends for breakfast and picking home-grown baby vegetables from the farm’s kitchen garden for their early children’s suppers.

“At Mesmear, we measure our food miles in feet,” said Chef Colin Hutchens. “We prepare and serve the best, freshest local produce with home-grown vegetables and local meat, fish and seafood such as Port Isaac cod, crab and lobster.”
For flying visits, short leisure breaks to Mesmear are made easy with a choice of Air South West flights from London City, Gatwick, Cork and Dublin; Ryanair flights from Stansted and Jet2 services between Belfast and Newquay; First Great Western serves Bodmin Parkway from London Paddington, where your Mesmear ‘chauffeur’ will await!
